Faith Trumps Fear

As a designer by trade and since my conversion, I have been inspired by certain phrases out of books — including the greatest book ever written — the Bible.

My life’s path has diverged and God is still forming me, teaching me and leading me to a new place.  I teach a typography course and have my students work on a “type as image” project. This has become an anticipated project and the results always amaze me. The concept is to create a portrait using letters (type, fonts) to create the image.

A project that I worked on showing diseases and infirmities that Jesus carried for us on the cross.

“He himself bore our sins
in his body on the cross,
so that, free from sins,
we might live for
righteousness;
by his wounds
you have been healed.”

[1 Peter 2:24 NSRV]

Simultaneously, while developing this image, I kept keying in on messages about keeping your heart open and surrendering your heart to Christ. This started to percolate and I got a vision of an open heart with the word, “Surrendered” creating the shape. I developed a design and started to explore 3D printing and created a pendant out of it in stainless.
