7 Principles of Spiritual Warfare

Renunciation Ritual

Bless yourself when wherever you see †

In addition to Sacramental Confession, renunciate of all sins committed. While the Sacrament has forgiven these sins, you need to make sure you remove all attachments to them. This Ritual is not about unforgiven sins.
You have already asked God to forgive these sins. This Ritual is about removing any and all attachment to sins that may remain so that the devil cannot use this as an excuse to hang on to your life. In preparation for this Ritual, you need to write down on a sheet of paper all the sins of your life that you can remember. NO ONE WILL SEE THIS PAPER or know what you wrote except you. During the Ritual this paper will be burned (thus, be sure to find a safe place to burn the paper (such as the kitchen sink). The value of burning this paper filled with sins is to give a strong visual that your sins are gone. They have truly been washed away, burned away, and no longer exist. It also helps to visualize the sins being burned up as an aid to help you renounce the sins and to remove from yourself any attachment to them.

Begin by renewal of baptismal promises:

I reject Satan, and all his works, and all his empty promises.
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was born of the Virgin Mary was crucified, died, and was buried, rose from the dead, and is now seated at the right hand of the Father.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Catholic Church,
the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting.

God, the all-powerful Father of our Lord Jesus Christ has given us a new birth by water and the Holy Spirit, and forgiven all our sins. May he also keep us faithful to our Lord Jesus Christ forever and ever.

 Performing the Ritual

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, † and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Our Father, who art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy Name. Thy Kingdom come, Thy Will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, † and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace; the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Make the Sign of the Cross

Thank you Heavenly Father for forgiving me. With the destruction of this list I give up any and all attachment to the sins listed and to all sin. I give myself permission to forgive myself. I give up these sins to you, Lord, and I know that the Blood of Christ Jesus cleanses me. I am made pure and as white as snow by your forgiveness, love, and mercy through the Cross. Thank you for loving me enough to forgive me and to cleanse me of all unrighteousness. With the help of the Blessed and Immaculate Virgin Mary, Mother of God, Blessed Michael the Archangel, Blessed Apostles Peter and Paul, Sts. Benedict, Basil, Padre Pio, Bruno, Dymphna, and my Guardian Angel, and all the Saints and Angels of Heaven, and powerful in the holy authority of the name of Jesus Christ, I shall receive this blessing of forgiveness as a new beginning to live for you. Amen.

Prayer to St. Michael

Saint Michael, the Archangel,
defend us in battle;
be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil.
May God rebuke him,
we humbly pray;
and do Thou O Prince
of the heavenly host,
By the Power of God –
Drive into hell Satan
and all the other evil spirits
who wander throughout
the world seeking the ruin of Souls.
Amen.

Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, Have mercy on us.
Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, Have mercy on us.
Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, Have mercy on us.
We place all our trust in thee.
